Jo Anne started her career as a health sciences librarian at the UCLA Louise Darling Biomedical Library where she was a bibliographic search analyst at the Regional Medical Library serving Arizona, California, Nevada, and Hawaii and then in the Reference Department, Feb. 1971-June 1977. Following a sojourn at the Health Sciences Library at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she held positions of Director of Public Services and head of Collections Development, she returned to California in 1985. At that time, she returned to UC at the rank of Librarian as head of Public Services at the Carlson Health Sciences Library (CHSL) at UC Davis. She became head of the CHSL in 1988, a position she held until her retirement. In addition, she held several temporary administrative positions in the General Library, as well as participated on several campuswide administrative advisory groups and committees. She retired in 2008. She also served in in a parttime position as Academic Federation Assistant to the Vice Provost-Academic Affairs from 2005-2008, and on recall in that position from Aug. 2008-June 2016.
Jo Anne was professionally active with several regional and national associations. She held leadership positions in the Medical Library Association, where she served on the Board of Director, 1988-1991, as well as chairing several Sections and committees. She was named Fellow in 1999. In addition, she was an active member of the Special libraries Association, Biomedical and Life Sciences Division, receiving its Distinguished Member award in 2002. She was named a Fellow of the association in 2000.
Jo Anne co-edited five editions of Introduction to Reference Sources in the Health Sciences, published by the Medical Library Association. In addition she authored and co-authored other articles and book chapters. She was a lecturer in the School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine, teaching “Biomedical Information Resources and Retrieval”, 1986-1993, as well as guest lecturer in several veterinary and medical school courses; she was Lecturer at the UC Berkeley, and School of Library and Information Studies, and taught LINFOST 251, “Bibliography and Information Services: Health Sciences,” spring 1989.
