Susan Lessick, WEBMASTER
Susan Lessick, MA, MLS, AHIP, FMLA, is Distinguished Librarian Emerita at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). She holds an MA in History from UCLA and an MLS in Library Science from the University of California, Berkeley. Her career at UCI spanned nearly 30 years, during which she served in a variety of educational and leadership roles, including the Head of the Grunigen Medical Library. She also served system-wide as the UC Special Associate for Copyright Education Planning in the UC Office of the President, where she helped develop the first UC Copyright website, which continues to serve as a key resource for the UC academic community.
A Distinguished Emeritus Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) and a Fellow of the Medical Library Association (FMLA), Susan has held numerous educational and leadership roles within the Medical Library Association, including Founding Director of the MLA Research Training Institute (RTI), a national online education program that provides advanced research methods training and mentored research experience for health sciences librarians and library and information science graduate students. In 2025, she received the Marcia C. Noyes Award, the Medical Library Association’s highest professional honor.
Susan currently serves as Vice President and Program Chair of the UCI Emeriti Association. Her professional interests include health information research, evidence-based practice, emerging technologies, and copyright. She has authored numerous publications and presentations in these areas and continues to contribute to professional education and research. Over the course of her career, she has contributed to numerous academic and professional web initiatives, developing expertise in website content strategy, organization, usability, and information architecture. As CUCEA Webmaster, Susan is committed to keeping the website current, informative, and useful for our UC emeriti community, while continually improving its usability, organization, and content.
