1964 – 1998: Chancellor’s Office, University of California Berkeley
Provided staff support to Chancellors Edward Strong, Martin Meyerson, Roger Heyns, and their senior staff. Member of the senior staff for Chancellors Albert Bowker, Ira Michael Heyman, Chang Lin Tien, and Robert M. Berdahl. Provided budget, strategic and academic planning for major campus efforts, including policy analysis, and contract negotiation.
1972 – 1998: Executive Director, Planning and Analysis
1986 – 1998: Special Assistant to The Vice Chancellor for the Biological Sciences with responsibility for academic planning, academic, staff and budget reorganization, and construction liaison for the Life Sciences Addition, Koshland Hall, NW Animal Facilities, and reconstruction of the Valley Life Sciences Building. Represented campus in development of contract and negotiations with Howard Hughes Medical Institute (with a value greater than $50 million).
1998 – 2004: Consultant, UCB Chancellor’s Office, to finalize revised Collaboration Agreement with Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
1998 – 1999: Consultant, UCB College of Engineering, to establish new department of Bioengineering (approved July 1, 1999).
2000: Consultant, UC Santa Cruz, to advise on the negotiation of a Collaboration Agreement with Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
2000 – 2001: Consultant, UC Merced, Chancellor’s Office, to develop a 10-year operating budget for the new campus, and faculty recruitment plan.
2001 – 2003: Consultant, UC Office of the President, to assist with planning, capital and operating budgets for the California Institutes for Science and Innovation and with reporting requirements to Sacramento.
